MOTOGP: Lowes to sit out qualifying

Tech3 Yamaha MotoGP rider Alex Lowes will miss qualifying for the Aragon Grand Prix after a crash on Saturday morning, but could still race.

Standing in for the injured Bradley Smith, Lowes fell at Turn 16 in the third practice session and was taken to the medical center for checks after reporting foot pain.

The British rider will sit out fourth practice and qualifying on Saturday afternoon, however his weekend is not necessarily over, with Tech3 confirming "he will be reviewed by medical staff tomorrow morning."

If he races on Sunday it will be Lowes' third MotoGP start, and he is due to ride next weekend at Magny-Cours in his full-time program with Yamaha in the World Superbike Championship.

The following round at Jerez clashes with the first of MotoGP's three flyaway races at Motegi on October 14-16.

Smith is back in training after sustaining knee ligament damage during practice for the Oschersleben 8 Hours race in August, and believed to be aiming to return in Japan.
