
Bridgestone/Firestone donates to IndyCar, USAC charities

, the Dan Wheldon Foundation and Alzheimer's Association, and the USAC Benevolent Fund in memory of Bryan Clauson for a total of $20,000 to close the season with a grand gesture of support for the greater IndyCar community."Championship weekend is a perfect time to reflect upon and celebrate everything that has happened over the past season," said Lisa Boggs, director of Bridgestone Americas Motorsports. "The motorsports community is one big family and it's a privilege to be a part of it. We wanted to take the opportunity afforded by this weekend to honor those individuals who embodied the spirit of racing and their legacies that live on through all of the great work these organizations do to help others."
Earlier this month, Watkins Glen winner Scott Dixon pledged his $30,000 in race winnings to the Wilson Children's Fund, which was established to look after the financial needs of Justin Wilson's daughters. An eBay auction of sports and entertainment memorabilia and other unique items raised more than $620,000 in the months following Wilson's death.
Created in 1996, the Indy Family Foundation-Benevolent Fund of Motor sports is a volunteer-run nonprofit whose mission is to aid those in the motor sports community who find themselves in financial need due to hardship caused by illness, injury or death. Assistance is offered to race car drivers and all licensed participants in racing, including crew members, course workers, support and administrative personnel, public relations and media representatives and team owners as well as their immediate family members.
The United States Auto Club (USAC) Benevolent Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance to injured or needy auto racing participants and their families with ties to USAC and IndyCar.
