MOTOGP: Honda tests 2017 engine for first time

Honda's Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa tested its 2017 MotoGP engine for the first time at Misano on Tuesday.

The factory outfit stayed on after the San Marino Grand Prix, but its plan to test on Monday was thwarted by overnight rain.

But championship leader Marquez and Misano winner Pedrosa were able to run on Tuesday.

In better conditions, Honda says both riders tried the first version of the new engine.

Having adopted a counter-rotating crankshaft, Honda's engine was not fully sorted when it had to be sealed prior to the season opener in Qatar and has been a factor in its 2016 struggles.

Pedrosa says his improved form is based on old parts rather than new, and with Marquez's also completed set-up work.

Marc VDS Honda rider Tito Rabat tested at Misano on Monday.
