NASCAR: Hamlin on pole for Richmond
Hometown favorite Denny Hamlin won the pole for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Hamlin's lap of 122.344mph in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota bested Kyle Larso (Chip Ganassi Chevy) and his Gibbs teammate Matt Kenseth. Larson's teammate, Jamie McMurray, was fourth, with Kurt Busch's Stewart-Haas Racing Chevy rounding out the top five.
Among those failing to advance out of the first round of qualifying were rookies Chris Buescher (31st) and Chase Elliott (34th), who will have to come up through the field to qualify for the Chase in what is the final race before the playoffs begin.
