NASCAR: Harvick, Patrick swap crew members

Following yet another subpar performance on pit road during the Southern 500 at Darlington on Sunday night, changes are coming to Kevin Harvick's over-the-wall pit crew.

Stewart Haas Racing announced on Wednesday night that it was making several swaps between the No. 4 driven by Harvick and the No. 10 driven by Danica Patrick. As a result, Harvick will get front tire changer Eric Maycroft and front tire carrier Matt Holzbaur.

They will replace Tim Sheets and Todd Drakulich, who will head over to the No. 10. The crew members will assume their new roles on Sunday at Richmond International Raceway.

Harvick has been critical of his over-the-wall crew throughout the summer months, but the situation boiled over when the 2014 champion said he was "

over being a cheerleader

" after the team lost a combined 18 positions over the course of a race in which he led the most laps but finished second to Martin Truex Jr.

"We have championship cars and we're just mediocre on pit road," Harvick said after the race. "It's kind of been this way for a few years and they've moved some things around, but it just seems like it's just week after week after week." You have a couple good weeks here and there and every once in a while you just put together a day, but they just can't put together a whole day on pit road right now."

Harvick had similar frustrations during the summer of 2014 and SHR responded by completely swapping crews with the No. 14 team the week before the playoff opener at Chicagoland Speedway. Tony Stewart had missed the Chase that season and his team was available.

Patrick will likely miss the playoffs this season but SHR opted to mix and match instead, hoping to capture similar results as it did in 2014.
