VIDEO: Transforming Bristol into a football stadium

Bristol Motor Speedway is putting the finishing touches on a plan decades in the making: bringing college football into the bowl built for NASCAR.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, BMS will host the "Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol," featuring border rivals the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Since news of the matchup first broke three years ago, the duel has captured headlines and intrigued audiences across the globe. Ticketholders hail from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four foreign countries, and the expected crowd of more than 150,000 — more than double the attendance at this year's Super Bowl — is predicted to smash the existing world record for the largest American football game.

The video below offers a time-lapse look at how the speedway has been transformed since NASCAR's Sprint Cup race earlier this month, into a venue for a whole different contact sport.
