IMSA: Magnussen pushes speeds higher in VIR FP3

Speeds continued to tumble at Virginia International Speedway Saturday morning as GT Le Mans and GT Daytona teams completed the final practice session before going into qualifying.

Building off their pace late Friday, Jan Magnussen and the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R stayed atop the field (1m41.637s) which is impressive considering the Dane went almost one second faster than the best his teammate Antonio Garcia set on Friday (1m42.632s).

Magnussen, like the rest of the contenders in IMSA's GT-only WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event at VIR, has used its new track surface to produce incredibly close lap times. The top three in GTLM were separated by almost nothing as Dirk Muller in the No. 66 Ford GT (-0.025) and Dirk Werner in the No. 25 BMW Team RLL BMW M6 (-0.040) also produced laps in the 1m41.6s range.

Just as Corvette held its position overnight in GTLM, Paul Miller Racing continued the trend in GTD as Madison Snow pushed the No. 48 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 to the top of the class. And like the Corvette, Snow's speed (1m43.864s) was well under the best the car produced by teammate Bryan Sellers (1:44.944). The No. 48 Lamborghini was followed by Corey Lewis in the No. 16 Change Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (-0.262) and Lawson Aschenbach in the No. 9 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8 LMS GT3 (-0.322).

UP NEXT: Qualifying, 11:55 a.m. ET
