INDYCAR: Filippi rejoins Coyne for Toronto
Dale Coyne Racing has added Luca Filippi to its roster for Toronto in the same No. 19 Honda the Italian drove during the first four races of the season. Filippi will partner with Conor Daly, and returns to the seat Gabby Chaves has occupied from the Indy Grand Prix through to last weekend's race in Iowa.
"I'm very excited to be back with Dale Coyne Racing this weekend and to have the chance to race in the Honda Indy Toronto again," Filippi said. "I want to thank IMPCO Technologies, the ComfortPro team and Dale Coyne for giving me this opportunity. It's one of my favorite races, not just because I finished on the podium in Toronto last year, but because it's one of the best events on the schedule and I love to race on street circuits. I can't wait to get back on track."
Filippi helped Ed Carpenter Racing to a 1-2 finish at Toronto last year when he crossed the line in second place behind Josef Newgarden. He lost his drive during the off-season when ECR cut its second full-time car for 2016, but resurfaced with Coyne to open the year in the No. 19 entry. Toronto will mark his first time in the car since Barber, although it's unclear whether the 30-year-old Filippi will stay on for any additional events.
"We're happy to have IMPCO join our group of sponsors for this event," Coyne said. "It was only fitting for us to partner with them, and to bring Luca back for this great event in Canada."
