F1: Sauber to skip Silverstone test

Sauber is to skip the second in-season Formula 1 test at Silverstone next week.

The Swiss team claims the decision has been taken on the grounds of "cost effectiveness," as the car's new aero package is to be introduced at a later stage.

Sauber missed the first in-season at Barcelona in mid-May due to the fact it had no car update for the Spanish Grand Prix, and there was no young/test driver that fulfilled the requirements.

The team's financial troubles have been well documented this season, with staff salaries paid late on numerous occasions, while the C35 has barely been updated following its late introduction after Sauber missed the first pre-season test.

It emerged over the course of the Austrian GP weekend there is hope on the horizon, with

a new investor seemingly poised

to come to Sauber's aid.

Team principal Monisha Kaltenborn has spent the last few months trying to secure fresh financial backing to guarantee Sauber's future in F1.

That search appears to be at an end, albeit with talks still ongoing as the deal draws close to a conclusion.
