F1: Rosberg - I'll be at Mercedes for many years

Nico Rosberg says he will be with the Mercedes Formula 1 team for “many more years” to come as negotiations to renew his contract continue.

The German, whose deal expires at the end of the season, is in his seventh season with the team, having joined in 2010.

He has recently recruited former F1 driver Gerhard Berger to help with contract talks to extend his stay at the world champion team.

But Rosberg says he is in no rush to get a deal sorted as he focuses on his title battle with Lewis Hamilton, who he leads by 24 points in the championship.

“It’s not something I think about at the moment,” said Rosberg. “It’s not a priority at the moment because there is no pressure anyway. I’m feeling great, we are all happy to be together. I’m going to be here for many more years and that’s it. There is no need to rush.”

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said recently that neither the team nor Rosberg is “flirting” with an alternative to the current partnership.

When asked if the current negotiations were weighing on Rosberg’s mind, Wolff said: “No, first of all he had a brilliant adviser who is pretty experienced in negotiating good contacts.

“That was very clever because he took himself out of it and I don’t think it affects him at all. We are in good discussions. I have no doubt that Nico and us, we want to continue for a while.

“We just need to be patient.”

Last year Hamilton committed to Mercedes until the end of the 2018 season.
