Denmark’s Christina Nielsen continues a packed 2016 season with what is undoubtedly the biggest race of the season – the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Fresh from a third consecutive podium finish in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series in North America that further extended her GT Daytona Championship points lead, the action moves back to Europe. The 84th running of the historic race is held partly on closed public roads on the outskirts of the French city of Le Mans.
Nielsen will form part of an all-Danish driver line-up alongside Mikkel Mac and Johnny Laursen in the 2015 European Le Mans Series Championship winning No. 60 Formula Racing Ferrari 458 GTE.
Nielsen and her teammates will be competing in a 13-car GTE-Am class, part of a record 60-car entry.
There are practice and qualifying sessions throughout the week before the race gets underway on Saturday, June 18 in front of an expected 250,000 race fans and a massive global TV audience.
The Ferrari 458 GTE has proven to be very successful at Le Mans, scoring class wins three times in the past five years. Nielsen will be looking to help Formula Racing add to that total.
“Le Mans is an amazing event and every racing driver dreams of being a part of it,” said Nielsen. “To be here in a car capable of competing for a win is better still. Before we start thinking of that though, there is a lot of hard work ahead. It wouldn’t be Le Mans though without taking the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere. I can’t wait to get started.”
