Turner Motorsports Post-Belle Isle Qualifying Report
Turner Motorsport No. 97
Michael Marsal showed his partiality to the tight and tricky turns of the temporary Belle Isle street circuit as he piloted the No. 97 Alvarez & Marsal/IHG Rewards Club BMW M6 GT3 he shares with Markus Palttala to a 10th place start on the grid for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic presented by Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers.
The positive result serves as a good omen for the Turner Motorsport team as the quick weekend in Motor City marks the debut of the team’s new BMW M6 GT3 around the scenic 2.35-mile temporary street circuit.
Shared with the Verizon IndyCar Series, the weekend is a compact one for Marsal as he put in valuable laps during two practice sessions ahead of his qualifying run on Friday evening.
“I’m really happy with how we qualified,” said Marsal following the qualifying run. “The guys have done a great job and gave me a really good car. I like this track, sure it is tight and bumpy and leaves very little room for error but I was really having fun out there. I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow! Even though it is shorter, that really doesn’t change my outlook much, I’m just ready to do the same as always; run my race and hand it over cleanly and hopefully in good position to Markus (Palttala).”
The short 100-minute race is set to go green on Saturday at 12:40 PM ET with coverage beginning LIVE on FOX Sports 1 at 12:30 PM ET.
