INDY 500: Newgarden's tribute to Harroun

Josef Newgarden's helmet will pay tribute to Ray Harroun, winner of the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911.

Designed by Brett King Design, the helmet features Harroun's goggles, with an homage to Harroun's toothy smile seen within the lenses.

Newgarden will start from the middle of the front row on Sunday. While he's qualified in the top three rows in three of his five Indy 500 starts (he qualified eighth in 2014 and ninth last year), he has three finishes of 25th or worse.

"I feel confident," Newgarden said Monday after ending as the fastest car in the final practice before Carb Day. "We have a pretty strong package with Chevy and our ECR team and we'll try and put the Preferred Freezer car in victory lane on Sunday."
