LAP Motorsports is taking advantage of the break in the Continental Tire Challenge schedule to support two of Dale Coyne Racing’s cars set to compete in the 100th Indianapolis 500. Team owner Luis Perocarpi will be crew chief on Brian Clauson’s No. 88 Cancer Treatment Centers of America Honda, while Rob Ridgely – LAP’s lead engineer – is head engineer on Pippa Mann’s Susan G. Komen Honda.
“We’ve raced against Dale Coyne Racing for years in our CART and Champ Car days, while Rob worked full time with that team as a lead engineer before joining our MINI team,” said Perocarpi, whose last of five Indianapolis 500s was in 2009. “When Dale Coyne Racing expanded from two to four cars for Indy, and they landed a sponsor for Brian Clauson, they asked me to be his crew chief.”
Ridgely has been an Indy 500 crew chief since 2008, and has worked several times with Mann.
Meanwhile, the team based in the Indianapolis suburbs is preparing three MINI John Cooper Works for the next race on the schedule, Continental Tire 150 at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, July 2.
