Brawn F1 car to run at Goodwood Festival

Jenson Button's Formula 1 world championship-winning Brawn GP chassis will return to action at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed in June.

Chassis 002, one of only three BGP 001s built during the 2009 season, belongs to team chief Ross Brawn, who took over the Honda team when the Japanese manufacturer withdrew from F1, and sold it to Mercedes a year later.

"I've had the very car Jenson used throughout his world title-winning season in 2009 in my collection since that time and can't wait for it to turn a wheel under its own power for the first time since that incredible season," said Brawn. "The car was stripped and rebuilt before I took it and has been rarely seen in public since then.

"I can't think of a better place to show off the car than at Goodwood – the event is remarkable. In F1 you get very close to your own car, but not to anyone else's. The public's enthusiasm for the history of motorsport is one of the reasons the event is such a success."

Brawn added the car is currently being prepared for its run by D3 Racing Solutions, and some of the mechanics who worked for his team in 2009 are giving up their time to help run it at Goodwood.

Ex-F1 driver Martin Brundle is expected to drive the car up the famous hill at the Festival of Speed.
