MOTOGP: 'No limits' to winglets - Marquez

Marc Marquez believes there is "no limit" to what is possible with MotoGP aerodynamic winglet development after trying Honda's latest addition in Jerez testing on Monday.

The controversial winglets have become ever more common in MotoGP since their introduction by Ducati last season. Honda tried a three-winglet set-up on its factory bikes' fairing during the post-Spanish Grand Prix test day, in which Marquez was fastest.

"The most striking thing for people was our testing three different winglets," he said. "The aerodynamic side of things had a lot of untapped potential; now that this has been opened up, we can work a lot on this aspect because there seems to be no limit to what you can do with it."

Teams also tried three new front tire compounds from Michelin at the test, with Marquez's teammate Dani Pedrosa reporting that "one of them was clearly better than what we currently have, which is positive."

SUZUKI EXPANDS WINGLET USE

Suzuki became the latest manufacturer to employ winglets in Friday practice for the Jerez race, but they only appeared on Aleix Espargaro's bike.

Teammate Maverick Vinales tried them for the first time in Monday's test.

He doubts they have a direct impact on laptime but thinks they could help with consistency over longer runs.

"The feeling with the winglets is that their help is not a huge improvement, but for sure they may help in certain situations," said Vinales. "They will not cut tenths in the time attack [qualifying], but they allow me to ride a little more comfortably and this is a very big help over the race distance."
