MOTOGP: Marquez tops Jerez post-race test

Marc Marquez topped MotoGP's post-Spanish Grand Prix test at Jerez, as Honda elevated winglet development.

During Monday's running, the year's first in-season test, Honda evaluated a triple-stack of small winglets along the front of the the fairing of Marquez's RC213V. He finished the day at the top of the times with a lap of 1m39.313s, set early in morning.

With only the satellite Avintia Ducati team absent, work up and down pitlane included evaluating Michelin front tires. The French supplier is looking to select one speficiation to use for the rest of the year, with two used during the race weekend and a third in the test.

Jorge Lorenzo set the second-fastest time on his Yamaha, 0.019 seconds behind Marquez, with Maverick Vinales third, trying winglets on his Suzuki for the first time.

Sunday's winner Valentino Rossi sat out the bulk of the day, only riding in the final three hours, finishing fourth with a lap of 1m39.532s set during the final hour.

Both Yamaha riders completed runs on the version of the M1 with the further-rear-mounted fuel tank, while Lorenzo tried Rossi's preferred exhaust setup.

Dani Pedrosa was fifth for Honda, ahead of Aleix Espargaro and Cal Crutchlow.

Having struggled with power delivery during the first European race of the season, Ducati's Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso were eighth and 11th.
