INDYCAR: Foyt team storms Barber practice 2

A.J. Foyt isn't coming to Alabama this week because his lake house in Houston is under siege from all the flooding, so Takuma Sato and Jack Hawskworth did what they could Friday to cheer up the four-time Indy winner.

Sato posted the fastest lap during the second round of practice for Sunday's Honda Grand Prix of Alabama with a 1:07.215 in the ABC Supply Honda. That was just a fraction quicker than teammate Hawksworth's best of 1:07.219.

"We had a good result at Long Beach (fifth), so

this is a good way to keep our momentum going

," said Sato, whose lone victory for Foyt came at Long Beach in 2013.

James Hinchcliffe made it a Honda sweep at the top with a circuit of 1:07.245 in Schmidt Peterson Motorsports' Arrow Special while Will Power turned in the top lap of Chevy-powered teams with a 1:07.343 in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske entry.

Still, Sebastian Bourdais' lap of 1:07.339 in the Hydroxycut Chevy,

which led the morning session

, was still fourth fastest overall from the two 75-minute sessions.

Graham Rahal, second here a year ago, wound up fifth at 1:07.349 and defending champ Josef Newgarden was sixth quick at 1:07.387 in Ed Carpenter Racing's Fuzzy's Chevrolet.

The first 16 cars were separated by six-tenths of a second with one more practice period prior to Saturday's qualifying on NBCSN at 4 p.m. ET.
