WRC: Rally Argentina to be monitored by FIA

This week's Rally Argentina will be under close FIA observation after failings in its safety plan last season.

The Villa Carlos Paz-based event is on a final warning from the FIA after fans were injured when Hayden Paddon (pictured) rolled on the Capilla del Monte to San Marcos stage last season.

WRC safety delegate Michele Mouton has worked closely with the Argentine organizers and praised their efforts in making major changes to the route to try to ensure the security of spectators. The importance of getting this week right is not lost on the organizers, either.

"We had to make a compromise with this year's rally, but we have to recover," said general coordinator of the event David Eli. "We will implement areas closed to the public this year and we will inform spectators of precise locations where we will be able to guarantee security."

Dr. Jorge Rosales, president of Automobile Club Argentina added: "The events of last year meant a risk to the lives of people. That's why we are working hard with all parties, so we take care of security this year. We worked with Michele Mouton to improve and ensure that people enjoy this event and the event continues for many years."

July's Rally Poland is the other event on a so-called yellow card for spectator safety infringements.
