MOTOGP: Phillip Island renews through 2026

Phillip Island will host Australia's MotoGP grand prix until at least 2026, after a new contract extension was penned.

The Victorian circuit first hosted a motorcycle grand prix in 1989 but the race was lured to Sydney and the circuit then known as Eastern Creek in a big-money deal after just two years. It returned to Phillip Island in 1997 and a new deal has been reached between Dorna and the state government, also securing its World Superbike round until 2027.

"The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and the FIM Superbike World Championship have a strong history at Phillip Island, and have become part of the Island's fabric," Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said. "I am delighted the Victorian Government has decided to continue this long-standing, mutually beneficial relationship."

Phillip Island has also regularly hosted MotoGP pre-season testing, including in February ahead of the 2016 campaign.
