WEC: Rossiter returns to ByKolles line-up

James Rossiter will return to the ByKolles privateer LMP1 squad for the opening two rounds of the World Endurance Championship.

The Briton, who is racing in Super Formula and Super GT this season for the Kondo and TOM'S teams respectively, will drive the ByKolles AER-engined CLM P1/01 at this month's Silverstone opener and then at Spa in May alongside Oliver Webb and Simon Trummer. He is standing in for Pierre Kaffer, who has other commitments as part of his role as a member of Audi's pool of GT drivers.

The deal means Rossiter is returning to ByKolles, formerly known as Lotus LMP, for the first time since the Fuji round of the WEC in October 2014. He also raced its LMP2 Lola and Lotus chassis in 2012-13.

"Pierre has other contractual racing duties and, therefore, we had to look for an adequate replacement for the first two races," ByKolles racing director Boris Bermes said. "We know James very well; he was racing in past for us in LMP1 and LMP2."

Rossiter added: "It will be fantastic to race in the WEC again. Silverstone is my home race and therefore a very special event for me."

Kaffer, who contested six of the eight WEC races in the CLM last year, is scheduled to return to the team's line-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
