MOTOGP: Extra practice canceled

MotoGP has called off the additional practice session planned for Argentinian Grand Prix race morning due to rain at Termas de Rio Hondo.

The extra practice had been scheduled after Michelin withdrew both its planned compounds following Scott Redding's apparent tire delamination on Saturday, replacing them with a new harder tire on safety grounds. The poor weather on Sunday morning made it highly unlikely the new slicks could have been used in the extra session, so MotoGP riders will now go straight into their normal warm-up at 10:40 a.m. local time.

The weather forecast remains unsettled through Sunday, but if conditions improve there is still the possibility of squeezing an extra practice session in later to ensure MotoGP riders get chance to try the new tire on a dry track before the start. The two-hour gap between the warm-ups ending the the Moto3 race provides one potential opportunity if the weather allows.

Polesitter Marc Marquez described the possibility of going into the race with an all-new tire compound as "a bit of an unknown."
