INDYCAR: Bourdais car escapes fire damage

Sebastien Bourdais' IndyCar appears to have escaped damage following the

fire that broke out while the KVSH Racing transporter

was en route to Phoenix earlier this morning.

While the full extent of the damage to the transporter is still being assessed, team co-owner Jimmy Vasser has confirmed that neither the race car nor the team's equipment were compromised, and that preparations for Saturday's Phoenix Grand Prix are now progressing as normal.

The transporter was towed to Phoenix International Raceway after the fire, where KVSH team manager Steve Moore has now begun the process of searching for a temporary transporter that the team can work from during the race weekend, and is also trying to ascertain whether the damaged transporter can be repaired in time to be pressed straight back into service.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan had a similarly lucky escape two years ago when its transporter caught fire while on its way to the season-opener at St Petersburg. On that occasion the fire was restricted to the engineering lounge, and the race car and equipment were undamaged.
