MOTOGP: More post-crash surgery for de Angelis

Former Ioda MotoGP rider Alex de Angelis has undergone further surgery on the injuries he sustained at Motegi last October.

De Angelis crashed heavily at Turn 9 during the fourth practice session for the 2015 Japanese Grand Prix, suffering multiple head, chest and back injuries. He remained in hospital in Japan for two weeks, and following further treatment in San Marino was released at the end of October.

With the Ioda outfit switching from MotoGP to World Superbikes with an Aprilia in 2016, de Angelis returned to action in February in the production-based series. The Italian is 15th in the standings after two events, and went under the knife again in Italy before the third round at Aragon in early April.

The two-hour procedure on his right arm was to "repair the lateral cord of the brachial plexus in the right bicep muscle" and was successful, Ioda reported.

De Angelis is set to leave hospital in the coming days.
