Another movie chance for "The Art of Racing in the Rain"
A movie version of the best-selling novel "The Art of Racing in the Rain" is back in play, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The critically acclaimed novel by Garth Stein, published in 2008, is not strictly speaking about racing but how the lessons learned from watching racing – specifically the late Ayrton Senna's mastery of Formula 1 rain races, hence the title – can be applied to life's challenges, as seen from the viewpoint of a dog named Enzo whose owner is a professional racer.
The book was first optioned by Universal, which planned to cast Patrick Dempsey in the role of Enzo's owner, racer Denny Swift, but Dempsey eventually passed on the project and the movie wwnt into limbo. However, Walt Disney Studios has now picked it up and hired Neal Moritz (whose credits include Furious 7 of the Fast And Furious movie franchise) to produce a script by Mark Bomback, according to the Reporter. No cast or production date is yet fixed.
