XFINITY: Villeneuve set to return with new team
Wing Nut Racing, a new team that says it "will be debuting this year with a wide variety of racing avenues from off-road to stock car racing," announced it has signed Jacques Villeneuve to drive its entry in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, with backing from Alsco, K1 Speed, and SpeedForSale. The team's exact schedule was not announced.
The 44-year-old French-Canadian, an F1 world champion, Indy 500 and CART champion, has competed irregularly in NASCAR over the years, including nine starts in the Nationwide/Xfinity series. Most recently Villeneuve contested World Rallycross and Formula E.
"Alsco is excited to be part of the Wing Nut Racing #68 race team. We will partner with Wing Nut for one race in the 2016 Xfinity series as a primary sponsor and will be an associate partner with them for an additional five races this year," said Jim Divers, Alsco's Director of Sales and Marketing. "Jacques Villeneuve is a proven winner in motorsports and we look forward to being with him in Victory Lane."
