INDYCAR: Fry joins Chilton at Ganassi

Race engineer Brandon Fry has joined Chip Ganassi Racing to engineer Max Chilton's No. 8 Chevy IndyCar. Fry worked with the Briton in the same capacity at the former Nissan FIA WEC LMP1 program.

The move to CGR marks Fry's return to open-wheel after working with Conquest Racing, Forsythe Racing, and with Dale Coyne Racing as recently as 2014 during for the Indy 500. Between IndyCar tours and the move to Nissan, Fry served dual roles in the ALMS as team manager/engineer to steer Greg Pickett's Muscle Milk LMP1 program to multiple championships.

"Everything happens for a reason – sometimes in its own timeframes," CGR managing director Mike Hull told RACER. "Brandon became available because of the closing down of Nissan's P1 effort, and he has a lot of ability. He represents two things we see in him: A real passion for racing, and a real passion for using the data that's in front of him to work with Max into this system."

Chilton and Fry will debut next week in testing at Fontana, and Hull expects to see the team's newest driver/engineer pairing join the other successful tandems that form CGR's four-car Verizon IndyCar Series program.

"He and Max worked together briefly at Nissan which will help," Hull added. "What's in store for he and Max here is an exciting part of what's to come at Chip Ganassi Racing and we expect good things ahead for both parties."
