GP2: Pic switches to Rapax for 2016

GP2 race-winner Arthur Pic has joined Rapax for his third year in the category. The Frenchman moves to the Italian outfit after two years with Campos Racing. He finished seventh in the standings in his rookie campaign in 2014 and won the Hungaroring feature race, but could only manage 11th place last season.

Rapax, which helped Pastor Maldonado to the GP2 title in 2010, won a race last year with Sergey Sirotkin, who has switched to ART Grand Prix for the coming season.

"I wanted to be part of a front-running team that can challenge for the title, and Rapax has shown over the years they have the pedigree to deliver very strong results," said 24-year-old Pic. "They were especially competitive and consistent last year and I look forward to building on this to enjoy even more success in 2016.

"The decision to join Rapax was also made easier when I visited the team and could witness at first hand the great family spirit and atmosphere there was at the factory."

Rapax's managing director Andrea Bergamini added: "The arrival of a talented racer like Arthur will enable us to start an early work program aimed at achieving some very ambitious goals in a championship which is renowned for the high level of competition.

"His trust confirms the valuable work done by Rapax in the recent seasons which culminated in a superb 2015 run among the championship's frontrunners. We are determined to continue on the same path and aim for the top once again."
