Strategic Wealth Racing Pre-Daytona Report
They say practice makes perfect, and with a year of IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge experience and a long off-season of practice and analysis Strategic
Wealth Racing is ready to build on 2015.
The team embarks on the 2016 championship beginning at Daytona International Speedway this weekend and the Goldcrest Motorsports-backed Porsche team casts a familiar driver lineup of Matt Dicken and Monster Energy Drink Athlete Corey Lewis for the 2.5-hour BMW Performance 200 event held Friday afternoon.
For the team's second start in the season-opening race at the World Center of Racing, Dicken and Lewis are prepared to pick up right where they left off last season following a string of consecutive top-10 finishes.
“We made some really big strides last year and again throughout the three days at the Roar," said Lewis, following the Roar Before the 24 test days earlier this month. "Goldcrest Motorsports is so great to work with and Matt (Dicken) and I have been gelling extremely well. We really study the data, watch the video and critique on everything we have so we can always be improving, so I definitely think we can keep getting faster and better. I think that when we come back for the race we will be in a very good spot, even more competitive than we were at the test and we were in the top-five in the last session, even without a draft. So I’m really looking forward to being back for the race.”
While the 2015 season marked Dicken’s IMSA debut, he now looks forward to taking on each circuit with added race experience in his toolbox.
“The Roar test went really well for us earlier this month,” said Dicken. “The whole team here has worked to build up what we started here last year, really without much of a ‘break’ in the off-season and we are ready to get back at it this weekend at Daytona. Coming back this year with Corey (Lewis) is just great and I’m looking forward to continually improving both personally and as a team, especially with all of our combined experience from last year. The track at Daytona really suits our Porsche and I know the Goldcrest guys will have our car completely ready for the race, so I can’t wait to get there and get started.”
The premiere weekend will be a quick one for the team with just three practices ahead of qualifying on Thursday at 2:10 PM ET. The race is set to go green on Friday at 1:45 PM ET.
