F1: New Sauber to wait until second test

Sauber will wait until the second winter test to introduce its 2016 Formula 1 car, having adjusted plans due to the late change to the grand prix calendar.

The Swiss team, which will run Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson again this season, will still attend the first test at Barcelona on February 22-25. But it intends to run a modified version of the 2015 C34 with its new '16 livery on the opening four days of testing.

It is understood this is not a delay but rather a plan put in place by Sauber in response to the calendar being adjusted. The opening race in Australia was brought forward two weeks to March 20, which in turn meant testing was earlier, when the 2016 calendar was revised last September. This increased pressure on the teams to get their cars ready on time.

As a result, the majority of teams are likely to avoid proper car launches and instead unveil their new machines just before or on the morning of the first test day.

It is believed Sauber's preparations are going well and that it is on course to have the C35 ready for the second test, which starts on March 1.
