Stand 21 Safety Foundation plans Driver Safety Seminar at PRI

The annual Driver Safety Seminar, presented at PRI by the non-profit Stand 21 Safety Foundation, is free to all PRI attendees, and offers practical information that's useable by all race drivers, will take place on Friday, Dec. 11 from 10:00am to 1:30pm at the Indiana Convention Center, Room 208 & 209.

This program is conducted by internationally recognized motorsports safety experts and drivers, with lots of opportunity for audience questions and interaction. Champion Top Fuel driver Larry Dixon, and Dr. Steve Olvey, IndyCar's medical consultant, will highlight this year's forum, joined by several noted safety experts from other fields.

Dixon will cover what he has learned "the hard way" to better protect himself in his 330mph dragster, while Dr. Olvey will discuss his work-in-progress of understanding brain concussion injuries in drivers, and lessons learned so far.

Additional speakers and topics will include Dr. Edward Potkanowicz on avoiding heat stress, Dr. Claude Meistelman, who has studied rally-car co-driver motion sickness, and the basics on head and neck restraints and safe helmet removal.

The session will again be moderated by Stand 21 Safety Foundation Secretary, Don Taylor.

The Foundation has also produced a series of videos covering a range of newly developed product lines dealing with diverse aspects of safety, such as the crucial importance of wearing fire-retardant underwear, mental preparation, implementation of safety rules in club racing, testimony from NHRA drag-racing champion Larry Dixon.
