The long rain delay that pushed NASCAR’s Sprint Cup race from Phoenix from day into night also pushed it off NBC to NBCSN, with the predictable hit to the TV audience. The delayed event scored a 1.3 overnight rating, averaging 2.2 million viewers, well off last year’s 2.8 rating on ESPN, according to SportsMediaWatch.
The NASCAR Xfinity race from Phoenix, also on NBCSN, was similarly down, registering a 0.7 overnight and averaging 1.2m viewers, compared with a 1.2 rating last year on ESPN.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series round from Phoenix on Friday night averaged 447,000 viewers on FOX Sports 1.
The Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, enjoying a slightly more palatable live time slot than is typical on NBCSN, scored a 0.4 rating, averaging 493,000 viewers. By comparison the last European F1 round on NBCSN, the Russian GP, scored a 0.3 rating, averaging 354,000 viewers.
The NHRA Mello Yello drag racing championship finale at Pomona averaged 335,000 viewers for ESPN2’s final delayed telecast. Next year, NHRA drag racing moves to FOX Sports.
