WRC: Mikkelsen back at Rally GB after checks

Volkswagen World Rally Championship driver Andreas Mikkelsen has returned to Rally GB, after a whirlwind trip to Germany for medical checks.

Having become the WRC's newest winner in Spain last month, Mikkelsen left the UK on Wednesday night to visit VW's medical clinic. The Norwegian missed Thursday's shakedown - in which team-mates Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala shared the fastest time - but returned in time for the ceremonial start in Llandudno.

"I was in Germany for some medical checks," Mikkelsen said. "I flew into Manchester a couple of hours ago and just about made it here in time. I wanted to go over the start ramp. Everything is fine. I'm fighting fit and ready to fight for the win in Wales."

Mikkelsen does not feel missing the Thursday seat-time will be a hindrance when competitive running starts on Friday morning.

"I don't think it'll be a problem for us missing shakedown," he said. "We're ready for this event."
