IMSA: Cheever III tries out Action Express Corvette DP at VIR

Second generation racer Eddie Cheever III joined the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Action Express Racing team at Virginia International Raceway on Wednesday. Dane Cameron was on hand to tutor Cheever – who spent the 2015 season in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, where he had one win and three podium finishes in a Toyota stock car – for his first run in a high-powered sports prototype.

The Rome, Italy, native – son of Indy 500 champ and F1 veteran Eddie Cheever – tested a Ferrari F1 car in Italy a few seasons ago, while his previous racing experience came in open-wheel cars in Europe.

Following the laps Cheever ran in the Coyote-chassis Corvette, team manager Gary Nelson said: "Eddie III did a fine job driving during our testing on Wednesday.  I was impressed with his speed but also his car control."
