Cooper MacNeil to Race Alex Job Racing Porsche in Classic 24 At Daytona

Cooper MacNeil will get a head start on preparation for the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship when he races in the Classic 24 at Daytona Presented by IMSA on Nov. 14-15 at Daytona International Speedway.

While MacNeil will co-drive Alex Job Racing’s No. 22 WeatherTech Porsche 911 GT3 R in IMSA competition next season, he will join his father David

MacNeil in co-driving the 1999 Rolex 24 At Daytona-winning AJR Aerofab/Team Seattle Porsche 993 RSR in the 24-hour Historic Sportscar Racing event.IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge titlist and Alex Job Racing endurance driver Andrew Davis will co-drive a second 1999 AJR Porsche with Pat Womack.Alex Job Racing scored the Daytona-Sebring double in 1999, with Darryl Havens, Kelly Collins and Cort Wagner winning the IMSA GT class in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida, after being joined by Anthony Lazzaro in winning USRRC GT3 honors at Daytona in the same car.The Classic 24 features six period-correct run groups rotating through a full 24 hours of racing on the 3.56-mile Daytona road course. The run groups, which include various classes of similar-era race cars, each take to the track four times throughout the 24 hours. The competitors in each class covering the most total distance in their group's four one-hour sessions will be crowned Classic 24 at Daytona champions. The MacNeils will be competing in Group D.Cooper, what are your thoughts returning to Daytona to compete in the Classic 24?“I am super excited to return to Daytona to compete in the Classic 24 because of how cool the event is and how many historic racing cars will be there. HSR and IMSA have done a great job organizing the event and the inaugural year was flawless. I've always had aspirations of driving race cars from a young age especially with the family business being automotive related and with my father racing cars himself. I remember going to his races at Road America back when I was little and I definitely caught the bug at that point in time.” Any similarities between the classic Porsche 993 RSR and the Porsche 911 GT America that you raced in last season? What are the biggest differences?“Other than having the same Porsche crest on the hood, the 993 RSR I will be driving in the Historics doesn't compare to the modern race car I normally race. The mechanics, gearbox, electronic aids, and essentially the chassis are all very different. You have to drive each car differently and figure out what it likes the best in order to maximize its capabilities.”Who will be your co-driver in the Classic 24?“Leh Keen has a prior obligation and will not be driving with me this year at the Historics. Instead, Andrew Davis will be there. It's always good to have Andrew at the track because he's fun to be around and it's always good to have him in one of our race cars because he's so good behind the wheel.” Last year’s event gave you the opportunity to race against your father, in the No. 22 Alex Job Racing Porsche. Will you be racing against him again in this year’s Classic 24?“This year we are going to change things up. My father and I will be in one car racing against Andrew Davis and our good friend Pat Womack in the other car. It should be a somewhat evenly matched race so I'm really looking forward to it.” Will you be participating in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship test at Daytona on Nov. 17-18?“I hope to be participating in the November test with our new WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
