GRC: Former owner-driver Buhl launches team
Former Dreyer & Reinbold Racing IndyCar team co-owner Robbie Buhl will add his name to the growing list of open-wheel veterans who've formed a Global Rallycross team.
Buhl, a Michigan native who raced in CART and the Indy Racing League before turning to team ownership, has partnered with his brother Tom Buhl to form Buhl Sport Detroit. the team will make its debut at the GRC season finale next week in Las Vegas.
"We formed Buhl Sport Detroit to put a brand on the sports and entertainment projects that we have in the works," Robbie Buhl said. "The idea to base a motorsports team and sports marketing group in downtown Detroit is new to the racing industry, but makes perfect sense for us."
Buhl won the 1992 Indy Lights championship before graduating to CART, and moved into a full-time ownership and management role with DRR after retiring in 2004. After parting ways with Dennis Reinbold late in 2013, Buhl Sport Detroit marks the first major race team venture for Robbie and his brother.
"We have worked together with everything from Robbie's racing to client entertainment projects for the past 30 years," Tom Buhl said. "We finally decided to combine our business strengths and formalize the sports and entertainment aspect of the business, brand it and put some projects in motion. The GRC team is a great beginning with other exciting news yet to come."
