Juncadella back, no DTM debut for Ocon

GP3 title contender Esteban Ocon will not make his DTM debut for Mercedes at Hockenheim after all.

The brand announced on Friday that the 2014 Formula 3 European champion would stand in for an ill Daniel Juncadella, and the 19-year-old contested the first free practice session. However, a further announcement from Mercedes says Juncadella has recovered from a bout of food poisoning and will race in the season finale.

"I am relieved to see that Daniel Juncadella has pulled through this episode of food poisoning and is now fit enough to line up for the last race weekend of the season at Hockenheim," Mercedes DTM boss Ulrich Fritz said. "Special thanks go to our medical department who have given him such superb care.

"I would also like to thank our test and reserve driver Esteban Ocon who was thrown in at the deep end in the first free practice session without any time for preparation and who has done such a great job of standing in for Daniel."
