Claro/TracFone DeltaWing Racing Road Atlanta Post-Qualifying Report

Braselton, Ga. (October 2, 2015) – After a day that saw steady rain pelt an already sodden Road Atlanta, the Claro/TracFone DeltaWing Racing Cars team fought difficult qualifying conditions to set a sixth-place Prototype Class starting position for tomorrow’s 10-hour Petit Le Mans, the fourth and final round of the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup.

Drivers Katherine Legge, Memo Rojas and Andy Meyrick combined to keep the DeltaWing Coupe near the top of the speed charts in Thursday practice before the rain moved in and conditions deteriorated. Testing improvements to the windshield, the wiper and the defrosting mechanism over several laps in night practice, the team hoped for better in qualifying. When Legge took the wheel for qualifying, standing water all around the track made the going quite treacherous. With the forecast for Saturday trending toward more rain, the team will make adjustments overnight ahead of tomorrow’s season finale.QuoteboardKatherine Legge“The main challenge for us in the race will be the weather. If the track is dry we’re going to be really quick; if it’s wet, not so much. We lowered the wiper on the screen and clocked it a little differently so it stays on the screen better and we've invested a lot of time and effort into a blower system that is basically a defrosting mechanism that at least keeps the windscreen clear. As I told the drivers, tomorrow we just need to be sensible, keep it on track and I’m sure there will be lots of yellows.
