Galli commits to RX to 2018 with Kia
Former World Rally Championship driver Gigi Galli says his new Kia Rio Supercar program is a three-year commitment to the World Rallycross Championship, as the car made its test debut.
The Italian, a WRC podium finisher, ran the Kia at Franciacorta in front of Italian media on Wednesday ahead of its first competitive outing in the World RX round at the track later this month.
"This is the beginning of a three-year programme, and we will be at the start of World RX in 2016," said Galli.
The Rio has been built by Italian company Danisi Engineering. Despite the car's first shakedown going well, Galli is cautious about how it will fare on its series debut.
"The important thing is that we were able to put together all the pieces and we have hit the target," he said. "The car has shown good character immediately, and now we just have to take it to the race and develop it a bit at a time.
"I don't want to talk about results yet because that would be very premature. We have a lot to do before we get to the point where you can think about winning."
Galli made it to the semi-finals on his World RX debut last season at Franciacorta, driving an Olsbergs MSE run Ford Fiesta.
