IMSA: New GTD champs expected to join O’Gara Lamborghini program

Brand-new IMSA GT Daytona champions Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler are expected to announce a move from the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari team to a fresh opportunity with Tom O'Gara and Lamborghini for 2016.

It's believed the Bell/Sweedler combo could partner with the Giacomo Mattioli-owned Scuderia Corsa team for a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the duo's full-time program will take place with O'Gara Motorsports and the new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (pictured).

O'Gara, who was returning from Petit Le Mans, was unavailable for comment.

Bell played a key role in bringing members of the O'Gara team together this season in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series where the California-based program found Victory Lane on a regular basis. O'Gara team manager Shane Seneviratne and O'Gara chief engineer Gerald Tyler were driving forces behind Bell's Indy Lights championship at Dorricott Racing, making a reunion in 2016 less of a surprise than some might expect.

The team's recent confirmation of a Huracan GT3 program in IMSA's WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona class adds further credence to the alignment with Bell and Sweedler.

"I'm confident that our GTD team next year will continue to showcase their hard work and commitment to achieving the winning tradition that we expect in our organization," O'Gara said. "We are also happy to create an opportunity for drivers to advance their careers after achieving success in our Super Trofeo program. Our team and I are looking forward to this next challenge."
