Kyle Gimple Road Atlanta Pre-Race Report

Kyle Gimple will close out the 2015 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season this weekend as the series stages its 10th round of competition at Road Atlanta. For Gimple, who debuted the No. 75 AERO Advanced Paint Technology/Children’s Tumor Foundation Audi S3 in Round 2 at Sebring International Raceway earlier this year, the 2015 IMSA effort has been a season of solid progress with the new car.

The Compass360 Racing squad has continued to develop the Audi through the season and Gimple, along with his co-driver Paul Holton, has seen the improvements in the form of results on track as the championship comes to a close. The previous three race outings were the best of the season for the No. 75 Audi S3 and Gimple hopes to continue that positive streak of progress at the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta road course on Friday.

Gimple already knows the quick way around the track. He and former Compass360 Racing co-driver Ryan Eversley drove to victory there last year in a Honda Civic Si.

“I think we should do well at Road Atlanta,” said Gimple. “We tested the car there earlier this year and it felt really good. That was before we even debuted it at Sebring, and we’ve come pretty far along with the car since then. Obviously, we had a good run there last year in the Civic and it was great to close out the year with a victory. Hopefully we can just have another solid weekend to end the year on a high note. We would also be happy if it rained a little bit!”

Gimple will first take to the track on Tuesday for a promoter test day. Official practice begins on Wednesday afternoon. A second session will take place Thursday morning ahead of qualifying which is set to begin at 4:45 PM ET.

The 2.5-hour Road Atlanta event is set to go green on Friday at 12:15 PM ET with LIVE coverage on IMSA.com.

FOX Sports 1 will televise the race on Sunday, October 18 at 9:00 AM ET.
