Ferrari North America Road Atlanta Pre-Race Report

Leading the GT-Daytona manufacturer standings in the IMSA United SportsCar Championship and the North American Endurance Cup, Ferrari will be defending by a pair of Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italias at this weekend’s Petit Le Mans.

The ten-hour / 1000-mile Petit Le Mans, which will be held this Saturday at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, represents the final race of the IMSA season and the fourth round of the NAEC. In the GT-D class, Ferrari holds a slim lead in both the IMSA and NAEC manufacturer’s championships.

Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler, who drive the no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia, are third in the GT-D driver’s championship with a four point difference to the championship leader. The duo are also second in the NAEC’s GT-D championship. They will be joined at Petit Le Mans by Jeff Segal, who joined the team at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and in a podium effort at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A second entry from Scuderia Corsa, the no. 64 Ferrari 458 for drivers Matteo Cressoni, Daniel Serra and Jeff Westphal will compete at Petit Le Mans. Westphal has scored two IMSA victories in a Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia.

Competing in the GT-LeMans class, the Risi Competizione team has bolstered its driving lineup with the addition of Toni Vilander. Fresh from the team’s fifth podium of the sesason, Vilander will partner regulars Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer. Risi Competizione is seeking its fourth victory in the season-ending endurance classic.

Petit Le Mans will be broadcast on FOX Sports 2 beginning on Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 AM ET. Live coverage will alternate throughout the race on FOX Sports 2 and IMSA.com.
