NASCAR: Bowyer appeal rejected

Michael Waltrip Racing's appeal of the penalties issued to Clint Bowyer and his NASCAR crew at Chicagoland has been rejected.

Bowyer was penalised 25 points, with his team picking up the same punishment along with a $75,000 fine, plus a three-month suspension and six months' probation for crew chief Billy Scott, when incorrectly installed parts were found on the #15 Toyota.

MWR appealed the decision in the hope of rescuing Bowyer's championship hopes, with the National Motorsports Appeals Panel hearing the case on Wednesday.

"Upon hearing the testimony, the decisions of the panel are: the appellants violated the rule or rules set forth in the penalty notice; that the panel affirms and upholds the original penalty assessed by NASCAR.

MWR has the option to send the case to the National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer.
