The SportsCar Vintage Racing Association and the Trans Am Series toughed out constant drizzling rain occasionally interrupted by absolute downpours over the past two days to play out their weekend of races. Trans Am staged its 100-mile feature after ditching qualifying sessions in favor of a starting field determined by points.
In Trans Am, Paul Fix (LEFT, Chris Clark photo) and Cameron Lawrence prevailed in the TA and TA2 classes respectively. Fix' victory moved him to within 15 points of series leader Amy Ruman whose Corvette slipped off the course in the wet conditions after leading the first several laps.
Lawrence reached a milestone of 20 career wins, putting him into a sixth-place tie all-time with series legends Peter Gregg and Ron Fellows. Ernie Frances Jr. captured the TA3 American Muscle Group and Randy Mueller won the TA3 International Group.
The SVRA held competition for its Eastern points championship across nine run groups on Saturday. On Sunday it staged "Gold Cup" non-championship stand-alone races with most of the same groups plus Enduros. Several fields were shortened significantly through teams deciding not to chance their equipment in adverse conditions.
