
Jonathan Goring Wins SM at the Runoffs
First day of SCCA National Championship Runoffs sees Goring win Spec Miata under the lights and Australian teenager Joseph Burton-Harris wins Formula Mazda.
The first day of races of the 2015 SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Garmin VIRB is in the books, and featured the two Mazda spec classes, Formula Mazda and Spec Miata, and thus the first two Mazda SCCA National Champions of the year have been crowned.
It all came down to tire choice for the Spec Miata race, also known as Friday Night Lights thanks to Mazda enabling the first night race in Runoffs history by sponsoring the lights at Daytona International Speedway. A light shower just before the race slicked the track, and several drivers wrestled with whether to go with wet or dry Hoosiers as the rain stopped.
