WEC: Nissan preparing for post-COTA test

Nissan's ongoing testing program for its GT-R LM NISMO LMP1 prototype will continue immediately following this weekend's FIA World Endurance Championship round at Circuit of The Americas.

A team official confirmed the front-wheel-drive coupe design will begin its latest run at COTA on Tuesday – after all of the WEC containers are cleared from the garages, where the twin-turbo V6-powered car is expected to continue its development during a two-day program at the 3.4-mile, 20-turn road course.

The extreme front-engine machines were taken offline after struggling to meet the performance objectives set by Nissan at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the Indianapolis-based outfit spent the weeks following Le Mans identifying the GT-R LM NISMO's performance deficiencies and manufacturing components to address many of those issues.

A test at COTA at the end of July produced some improvements, and after

announcing a plan to skip the Aug. 30 WEC round in Germany, the 6-hour Lone Star Le Mans WEC race this Saturday, and the Oct. 11 WEC event in Japan

, the two-car team is expected to return for the Nov. 1 race in China and the final round in Bahrain on Nov. 21.
