MotoGP: Redding riding "like a child again"

Scott Redding says his MotoGP resurgence is due to riding "like a child" and having fun again after a tough first half of 2015.

The Briton took his first premier-class podium with third in last weekend's San Marino Grand Prix, following a breakthrough sixth at his home race a fortnight earlier. In both cases Redding took advantage of wet conditions, at Misano benefiting from an early change back to slick tires to vault up the order despite crashing in the early laps.

He reckoned the key to his improved form was mainly a change of mentality.

"I would say at the beginning of this season and up to Silverstone, I was an adult," Redding said. "After Brno, I turned myself into more like a child and started having fun again.

"I think that's the biggest difference – I again have a smile on my face when racing."

Redding announced at the British GP that he will move to Ducati satellite team Pramac for 2016, having struggled with the characteristics of the Honda he is riding with Marc VDS this year.

Bar his MotoGP rookie season with Gresini in 2014, Redding has been with Marc VDS since '10 and nearly won the Moto2 title with the squad two years ago. He admitted he was pleased to get the team a first MotoGP podium before moving on.

"The season has been tough for us but we still try every day, every weekend to make it happen," he said. "It's nice to be on the podium on this bike this year and for the team also, they work hard all the time.

"We just had to take that bit more of a gamble and I did that – and we got a bit of a reward for it."
