ELMS: Jota penalty gives Greaves Silverstone win

The Jota Sport Gibson team has lost its victory in the

European Le Mans Series event at Paul Ricard

for a drive-time infraction.

The Jota Gibson-Nissan 015S was awarded a 45-second time penalty nearly three hours after the checkered flag because Filipe Albuquerque drove for longer than the one hour and 30 minutes allowed for a platinum-rated driver.

The penalty moves the car Albuquerque shared with Harry Tincknell and Simon Dolan to third place behind the Greaves Motorsport Gibson of Jon Lancaster, Bjorn Wirdheim and Gary Hirsch and AF Racing's Nissan-engined BR Engineering BR01 shared by Mikhail Aleshin, Viktor Shaitar and Kirill Ladygin.

Albuquerque, who drove the second and third stints of the four-hour race for Jota, remained in the car for 1m57.770s longer than the 90-minute maximum.

The decision means that the Jota trio lead the championship by one point rather than 18 going into the ELMS finale at Estoril next month. They now have 76 points to the Greaves drivers' 75 and the 66 of TDS Racing's Tristan Gommendy, Pierre Thiriet and Ludovic Badey.
