Owen Trinkler VIR Pre-Race Report

The CRG-I Do Borrow driving tandem of Owen Trinkler and Sarah Cattaneo have been quietly racking up points and Top-5 results this season, but now the racing world is starting to take notice following the teams’ first podium finish of the 2015 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season at Road America just 10-days ago.  The rain filled weekend would have Sarah start the race from the third position in the Street Tuner (ST) class based on points after the qualifying session was rained out.

Cattaneo at one point would take the lead in the race, and turn the car over to Trinkler while in contention.  Owen would take the reins of the #44 Cruise America RV/Thor Motorcoach machine and work his way back to the front.  Working out a great fuel and pit stop strategy would find Trinkler right on the rear bumper of the race winner when they crossed the finish line for a second place finish in the race, the teams’ first podium finish of the season, and yet another great points day for the team. They are now just 16 points out of first place in both the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships after finishing ahead of the two teams ahead of them and closing the points gap.  The team heads into Virginia International Raceway for the series’ eighth round of the scheduled 10 races on the season with a lot of momentum after three straight Top-5 finishes and their fourth in the past five rounds.  “We have this small one-car team that no one has been talking about all year long.  Everyone has just kept their heads down and done their jobs this season.  Sarah has really come through in her driving, she’s qualified well all year, and has consistently handed me a car that I can compete until the end with.”  Trinkler continues, “I can’t say enough about the effort this team has put in, being a small team means everyone wears a lot of hats.  In the end the reward for all their hard work is tasting the champagne that comes with the podium finish and that’s what drives us to keep it going for more!”The Virginia International Raceway round kicks off with practice on Friday, August 21st at 9:40 am ET, with Qualifying following at 5:55 pm ET.  The race will drop the green flag on Saturday, August 22nd at 1:25 pm EST.  The race can be watched live on IMSA.com, with television broadcast taking place on September 6th at 9:00 am EST on Fox Sports 1.
