Kyle Gimple Racing VIR Pre-Race Report

Alton, Va. (18 August 2015) – Kyle Gimple will be back in racing form this weekend when the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge features Round 8 of the championship at VIRginia International Raceway on Saturday. The 2.5-hour race is held as part of the TUDOR Championship’s Oak Tree Grand Prix event weekend as IMSA enters its final three races of the 2015 championship.

Gimple will once again team with co-driver Paul Holton in the No. 75 Advanced Paint Technology/Children’s Tumor Foundation Audi S3 at the VIR circuit. A driver-favorite, VIR features 3.27 of the most thrilling miles of the season with some 17 corners making up a track that ducks and dives through the natural Virginia landscape. Last year at VIR, Gimple and former co-driver Ryan Eversley drove the Compass360 Racing Honda Civic across the finish line in fifth place after Gimple qualified the car 11th on the grid. The Compass360 Racing team has continuously worked to improve the new Audi platform throughout the 2015 season after debuting the S3 earlier this year at Sebring International Raceway. After two successful outings at Lime Rock Park and Road America in which notable progress was made on the car, the squad is looking for more at VIR.“We were very pleased with how the car performed at Road America and it was the best finish we’d had all year in the Audi,” said Gimple, who has made two IMSA starts at VIR. “We’ve done some testing at VIR and so we’re just looking to keep improving. The testing with the new car will be helpful since we already have a solid base to build from when we begin the weekend. We'll see how it goes, the progress that’s been made is definitely promising. There is still some work to be done to get the car to the next level and we’ll try to get there at VIR.”A promoter test day takes place on Thursday with official practice and qualifying set for Friday. The 2.5-hour IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race will go green on Saturday at 1:05 PM ET. IMSA.com and the IMSA app will carry LIVE streaming of the event.Follow scoring.imsa.com for living timing and scoring throughout the weekend as well as @KyleGimple on Twitter for updates. The VIR event will be televised Sunday, September 6 at 9:00 AM ET on FOX Sports 1.
